NKP Berkshire Cab Notes
Rick Grout

This model represents a typical 700-series Berkshire cab built at the Alco Lima Works through the 1940s. As usual, a few liberties were taken to accommodate the MSTS environment.

The forward view is as close to what the engineer would see from his seat as we could make it. The major driving controls are all represented and animated in the model. However, those of you who like to fire your own engine will find a few things missing simply because they are not visible in the forward view (for example, the blower control is on the far lower-left side of the backhead and only visible in the left-side view).

For your reference, here is a photo of an actual cab annotated to indicate the various functional elements.

Thanks to everyone who helped me with this cab model. Many of the textures were extracted, with permission, from photos by John Fryar. You can see the originals at John's fine web site http://nkprr.railfan.net/779. I received many other helpful photos from Bill Godby and Kelly Lynch. Thanks to Don Daily, who used to fire the original, for identifying all the controls for me. Finally, thanks to my collaborator, John Fowlis, for building my favorite steam locomotive.
